Tara Group is a family-owned independent company, consisting of three companies involved in the construction of housing. It was originally founded in 1974 by Noel Sweeney and remains in the ownership of the Sweeney Family. With offices in Chasetown, we employ over 250 people across our Group and work with over 400 sub-contractors.
Learn more about the groupIn 2017, Noel took steps to secure his business interests for the longer term, he wanted the Group to thrive and succeed for the long term. He established a Family trust, and appointed Trustees. Sir John Crabtree came on board in 2017 and became the Chair of the Trust and Group in 2020 when we lost Noel.
Over the last few years, Sir John has been focused on creating the identity of the Tara Group, making sure we retain Noel's entrepreneurial spirit, desire for success and growth, and always looking to support those less fortunate. John is passionate about the three companies that form the Tara Group, and convinced that if we all come together, we can see real benefits. We are stronger together.
John is a former President of Birmingham Chamber of Commerce & Industry and was previously Senior Partner of Wragge and Co LLP. He was appointed Lord-Lieutenant for the West Midlands in 2017, serving until 2024, and chaired the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022 Organising Committee.
From groundworks and infrastructure to residential developments and PRS, our companies are experts in house building. Collaboration, team spirit and sharing expertise. Whilst we have such skills and experience across our companies, we also all share the sense of family that comes from being part of Tara Group.
Since 1995 we have been partnering with landowners to deliver our outstanding residential schemes in highly desirable locations. We work hard to secure planning permissions which both maximise land values and create new high-quality communities for the future.
Noel Sweeney was passionate about the communities in which he lived and worked. That care and consideration for others is one of our founding values. It’s made us the people we are with values we’re proud of.
